Thai litter police

It is a “crime” to litter the streets in Bangkok but the Police and the guys in brown uniforms only give you a ticket if you are a foreigner or you have a Thai girl with you , preferably from the lower class.

They have a favorite spot outside the Thai immigration office and other special places where tourist like to go.

I really need to list this as scam since the fine of 2000 THB is only and I mean only directed at foreigners even if the law is equal to everybody. Calling the Thai tourist police in this matter does not really help since you broke the law even if it’s not fair to give you a fine up to 2000 THB.

Some thing you can do to avoid paying are:

  • Start speaking Spanish and no English what so ever
  • Just walk away
  • Scream and shout but in a nice way and do not insult or touch the police
  • Tell him you have no money and show him an empty wallet
  • Give him some pocket money like 100 THB
  • Start recoding with your video camera
  • Ask for a receipt
  • Take a photo of his ID card (if he has one)

Most of these things will make the problem end with a warning not the written one just like I know who you are warning.

Always check if the person is in uniform and with a proper ID card, if you not sure call the tourist police and check because there are many fraudsters as well claim to be police.
